Motivation:

als Studenten der Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik hat das Thema des Wettbewerbes unsere Fascination geweckt. Bisher gab es aber keine Gelegenheit an solch einem Wettbewerb teilzunehmen - dies hat sich jetzt mit fortschreitendem Studium geändert. Zudem kann das Team jetzt auf erste Erfahrungen in der Raumfahrtindustrie zurückgreifen.

Fascination:

Der Wunsch eine dauerhafte Verbindung zu einem Orbit zu schaffen besteht schon lange und scheitert bisher an der Machbarkeit. Es scheint aber nicht unmöglich. Daher fasziniert uns besonders die alte Raumfahrtmentalität unmögliches möglich zu machen. Ein funktionstüchtiger Space Elevator würde ein neues Kapitel in der Raumfahrt bedeuten.

Motivation:

We, the space elevator group at WARR, TUM, are developing an contructing space elevator models (so called climbers) for more then ten years. With our climbers, we participate in international competitions for space elevators. Our most rescent developement is the 4th generation in our climber history. We are confident, that we are able to show something advanced at EUSPEC 2016 and we are looking forward to see how our climber performs.

Fascination:

The space elevator is an interesting concept for an economic and energy-saving alternative to conventional space propulsion systems. Although the technical realization of this concept is still written in the stars, it might be possible to build a real space elevator in the not too distant future. The main concept can be easily understood by anyone which leads to a noticeable public interest.
